Parents' Place
Welcome to all Parents!
Welcome to the Somerset Middle School Library Website. My name is Sarah Alexander and I am the Librarian at the Somerset Middle School.
This website is intended to be a resource place for you and your children to use when doing homework or doing research. It contains links to many reliable online resources that have been gathered to make doing research much easier.
Main Resources - This page is like having your own personal Reference Room on your computer. There are links for almanacs, atlases, encyclopedias, newspapers, broadcast media, writing resources and databases.
The databases are provided to you, free of charge, through the Board of Library Commissioners of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. These are the same commercial databases used by higher education and commercial enterprises. Please use them because they have some of the best information on the internet. These are articles compiled from newspapers, magazines, journals, and other media sources and not readily available to you on the free we.
Citation & Bibliography - This link will send you to the instruction website A Word To the Wise .... which has been designed by me to assist students in the creation of bibliographies. More and more students are being asked to create a bibliography of the resources they use in order to avoid plagiarism. These lessons are designed to show how to find the information for citations and how to create a bibliography. There are link to citation makers available as well.
Class Activities - This page is for those teachers who have long term projects and need a central location for online resources.
A Word to the Wise ... - This is a website that has been created by me with units on different aspects of doing research along with the section on Citation & Bibliography. One section that might be of interest is the On The Web section which is a unit on website evaluation. Please feel free to check it out.
